Current Cap King: Real Rosters, Real Cap Hits
Current Cap King uses current NHL rosters and real cap hits. You build a twenty-player team, and the lineup has to fit under the cap displayed in the game. Stats are shown while you pick. The question on the mode card is the one that matters: could you win the Cup this year?
The cap turns every pick into a trade-off. Spend big on a franchise centre and you are looking for bargains everywhere else. Take value contracts early and you may have room for one star at the end, if the spinner cooperates. Because the spinner decides which team you pick from at each slot, you cannot plan a cap structure in advance; you have to adapt as the teams come up, which is what makes it feel like actual roster management rather than fantasy hockey.
Cheap, high-performing players are the currency of this mode. Entry-level contracts on good young players, veterans on discount deals, and strong goalies who are not paid like it are the picks that let you afford everything else. Finding them on whichever team the spinner gives you is the skill.
Each forward line has one team reroll, and the allowance follows the line you are viewing. There are no era rerolls in a current-roster mode, and no rerolls on defence or goalie pages. If you need to free cap space, use the available Remove control and check the remaining cut allowance. Once the lineup is full and cap-compliant, you get a simulated season record and an NHL power-rank comparison. Current Cap King has its own leaderboard.
