Double Team: Two Teams, One Cup
Double Team asks a question hockey fans argue about all the time: if you combined two current NHL teams, could that roster win the Cup? You pick two teams, build a full lineup from their combined rosters, stay under the salary cap, and then chase the Cup.
The choice of teams is the first strategic decision. Two contenders give you a deep pool but expensive contracts, and the cap will bite. A contender paired with a rebuilding team can work if the rebuilding team has cheap young talent to fill the bottom of the lineup. Two weak teams can be a fun challenge, and a good result with an unlikely pairing is a badge of honour.
Once the teams are chosen, fill four forward lines, three defence pairs and a goalie tandem under the displayed cap. The combined pool is bigger than your twenty-player lineup, so deciding which contracts to leave out is as important as choosing stars. You can remove and replace players while building, which makes it possible to try a different cap structure before you commit.
When you are happy with the merged roster, submit it and follow the playoff simulation. The result is a chance to test the question you started with: could these two teams become one Cup winner? Share the result, compare it on the Double Team leaderboard, or challenge a friend to build from the same pairing.
